摘要:
Following our recent journal club discussion on Lense-Thirring precession of a tilted magnetar engine (Farah et al. 2026) as an explanation for multi-bumped light curves in SLSNe-I, I present the work of H Kumar et al. (2026), which offers a compelling alternative perspective. Through comprehensive optical and NIR spectroscopic observations of SN 2024afav spanning −14 to +160 days, this work presents strong evidence for ejecta-CSM interaction as the driver of its multi-bumped light curve. I will discuss the spectroscopic and photometric evidence supporting this interpretation, and how SN 2024afav, together with a small comparison sample of similarly behaving SLSNe-I, may represent a rare subgroup where CSM interaction provides an observationally distinguishable alternative to the magnetar precession scenario, highlighting the diversity of physical mechanisms at play in these extreme explosions.
